The Portage Route Chapter has selected its scholar-in-residence for the year. Ryan Badger, a master's degree student at Utah State University, will be doing research in the Sherman Library and Archives from June 1 through June 19. He will then give a public presentation of his work during the annual Lewis and Clark Festival that weekend.
In his research proposal Ryan wrote that his paper "Would be a modern historiographical analysis on the death of Meriwether Lewis and allow me to complete the final paper necessary to qualify for my Master's Degree in history." He continued "This paper will not attempt to analyze Lewis' death itself, but rather to look at the polarization of historical thought and how scholarly perceptions of the Captain's death color interpretations of his life."
The final step for the scholar-in-residence to complete an article appropriate for publication in the WPO. Ryan anticipates that to be done shortly after his residency here is completed.
